The Fox Lodge Review (21178)

Hello everyone! Today is a very special day, as it is the beginning of Minecraft Maypril! Maypril? Ours plans were for a Minecraft March, but with global shipping and the chaos all around, the sets took a little longer than expected to arrive and we got sidetracked with other great builds, holidays and life in general. But hey, at least it’s here. I’m reviewing the Fox Lodge, one of the new Minecraft sets. Enjoy!

The Minifigs

As all Minecraft sets do, the build started off with the accessories and minifigures. The main character is a really cool minifigure as it’s wearing a fox onesie, it even has a tail! There is also a drowned minifigure which I didn’t have yet and 3 foxes. One fox was a snowy, white one and the other 2 were normal ones, a baby and adult.

There’s been a bit of uproar from LEGO Minecraft fans due to the fox’s having the same head as the cat figures. I can see why they are annoyed, but it would be a bit of a waste for LEGO to make a whole new mould as the basic features of the cat and fox are the same. As you see below the cat is on the left, and the fox is in the middle. It would have been nice to double the nose length, and make the ears reach the sides of the foxes head.

The Fox Lodge

The set comes in 2 packets and the first one also starts the base. There is a snowy tundra/water area (with a new 2×2 blue transparent jumper plate) which clips onto the main sand green 16×16 baseplate. The first pack only really makes the terrain, not the actual fox building.

The second and last pack (I know it’s a pretty short build) builds the main fox lodge. It’s built in an upwards fashion laying bricks upon bricks. The back is open so you can access inside and there is also a window on the side. The inside has a furnace, crafting table, cake, purple bed, plant in a pot and a map on the wall.

The top of the house can come off as well, allowing for even more access/playability. The top of the build is rounded off with 2 cute fox ears. When you look at the full build, it appears to be a sleeping fox, all curled up. I think this is cute and it gives the set a cozy aura. It looks amazing and is definitely pleasing to the eye.

Overall Thoughts

Overall, this is an great set and I am very pleased with it. It’s a fun little build with some cool minifigs. It’s an awesome set to kick of Minecraft May-pril and I hope you are looking forward to the next sets coming up. (I sure am).

See ya!

  1. I am tempted to try and replicate the build in Minecraft itself (my skills are lacking though so may take a while)

  2. My grandson is minecraft mad and I have been buying him minecraft lego sets for the last few years. His Middle name is fox and this would be an awesome set to add to his collection.
